The use of the word “green” today refers to something that is environmentally friendly. Recycling is a green process. Reusing or re-purposing items is a green practice. Energy efficient appliances are green products. Green construction refers to the application of processes that are eco-friendly and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life cycle. This encompasses design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition.The WGBC says that green buildings “preserve precious natural resources and improve our quality of life.”Any building can be green, whether it’s a home, office or other commercial building. As long as the appropriate technology and processes are used, the building is considered green.
